Blind colour plays a major role in how a space feels, performs and functions beneath a roof lantern. The right colour choice can influence light levels, heat control, mood and how the lantern integrates with your interior. Whether you are considering white roof lantern blinds, natural roof lantern blinds or roof lantern blackout blinds, colour should be chosen with both style and performance in mind. If you're looking for inspiration, you'll find a variety of shades on our Instagram How does colour psychology affect roof lantern blinds? Colour psychology affects how light is perceived and how comfortable a space feels. Lighter colours tend to reflect light and create an open, airy feel. Darker colours absorb more light and can feel more dramatic or cosy. This is especially important in kitchens and open plan living spaces where roof lanterns are often installed. Should roof lantern blinds blend in or create contrast? Roof lantern blinds can either blend into the ceiling or become a design feature. Blending colours such as white, ivory or grey suit minimalist interiors. Contrast colours such as black, blue or green create architectural definition and can frame the lantern as a focal point, making the space feel more editorial. Are white roof lantern blinds the most popular choice? Yes, white roof lantern blinds are often the most popular option. You want privacy, light control and insulation, without compromising the view or blocking the access. So what are the best blinds for sliding doors? Here’s everything you need to know. Can you buy blinds for sliding patio doors? Yes, and you’ve got more choice than you might think. While many people assume curtains are the only option for large glazed areas, modern blind systems are far more versatile. At Specialist Blinds, we make blinds tailored to your exact patio or sliding door measurements. Whether you’re after discreet, minimal panels or something more statement, we’ve got a solution that works with your door, not against it. How do sliding door blinds work? Most of our blinds for sliding and patio doors are fitted freehanging within the doorway reveal, with a slim top rail holding the blind in place. Rather than moving in a frame, they operate either vertically or horizontally depending on the blind style. Roller blinds and Duette® blinds move from top to bottom, offering a clean finish when raised. For a side-to-side movement, vertical blinds or our soft Nordic Drapes are the best choice. In some cases, we can fit individual blinds to each pane of glass if there’s enough space in the recess — but you’ll need at least 25mm of depth to allow for the fabric and operating handles. We offer both manual and automated options, so... --- - Published: 2026-01-14 - Modified: 2026-01-14 - URL: https://specialist-blinds.kijodev.com/inspiration-advice/news/can-you-get-electric-vertical-blinds/ Vertical blinds are a traditional shading solution for everyday workplaces or any standard windows. However, as a specialist, we’ve elevated vertical blinds to the next level. We can create shaped verticals for angled windows or gable blinds. With our bespoke vertical blinds, we also ensure the louvres of your vertical blinds won’t fall back against gravity like they often do with cheaper alternatives. Furthermore, you have the option to install electric vertical blinds with a variety of control options and fabrics. One of our more notable fabric types is our vertical dim-out blinds (otherwise known as blackout vertical blinds) which are useful cost-effective options for bedroom blinds and we also offer unique patterns to accent any room. What are the benefits of electric vertical blinds? As you can see from the video below, our electric blinds run smoothly and these operate with a simple click of a remote. With the trackpad, you can also tilt and turn the louvres of your vertical blinds to your exact specifications, from afar. Many people like that motorised vertical blinds give you three shading options... You can have your verticals fully extended across your window but with the louvres flat towards you, so they conceal as much light as possible. Tilting the louvres 90 degrees lets you see out your window with dappled shading and an only slightly obscured view. Lastly, you can retract your verticals entirely so they form a stack on one side of your glazing or in the centre of it.... --- - Published: 2026-01-14 - Modified: 2026-01-22 - URL: https://specialist-blinds.kijodev.com/inspiration-advice/advice/easy-guide/electric-vs-manual-roof-lantern-blinds-a-complete-guide-to-motorisation/ What is the difference between electric and manual roof lantern blinds? The difference between electric and manual roof lantern blinds is how they operate. Manual roof lantern blinds are opened and closed using a pole or cord system, while electric roof lantern blinds use a motor that is controlled by a remote, wall switch, app or smart home system. Electric lantern roof blind options are often chosen for larger lanterns, hard to reach glazing or where everyday convenience is a priority. What are manual roof lantern blinds? Manual roof lantern blinds are blinds that operate without motors or power. They are a practical solution for smaller lanterns or where access is easy. You may also see them referred to as roof lantern blinds manual or best manual roof lantern blinds when comparing entry level options. Manual systems are:Cost effectiveSimple to operateLow maintenanceIdeal for occasional use spaces What are electric roof lantern blinds? Electric roof lantern blinds are motorised blinds designed to operate at the touch of a button. These systems include electric blinds for roof lanterns, electric lantern roof blinds and fully motorised roof lantern blinds. They are tensioned to prevent sagging and are suitable for large spans and everyday use. Electric blinds are often chosen when homeowners want:Ease of usePrecise light controlIntegration with modern homesA clean-uncluttered finish What types of electric roof lantern blinds are available? Custom and bespoke roof lantern blinds are blinds designed and manufactured specifically for the exact dimensions and structure of your roof lantern. Unlike off-the-shelf options, custom made lantern roof blinds are engineered to fit the glazing precisely, ensuring correct tension, smooth operation and long-term performance. Bespoke lantern roof blinds are not adapted from standard systems but purpose built for horizontal roof glazing. What is the difference between custom and bespoke lantern roof blinds? The difference lies in the level of design and engineering involved. Custom lantern roof blinds are made to your measurements using a proven system, while bespoke lantern roof blinds may involve additional design considerations such as unique shapes, large spans or integrated motorisation. Both options deliver far better results than ready-made alternatives. Are bespoke roof lantern blinds better than ready made options? In our opinion, yes, bespoke roof lantern blinds are significantly better than ready made or DIY options. Ready made blinds are often not designed to operate horizontally and can sag, struggle with tension or fail prematurely. Bespoke systems are designed to remain taut, glide smoothly and cope with daily use, making them a smarter long-term investment. What are the main benefits of custom made lantern roof blinds? Custom made lantern roof blinds offer performance, comfort and peace of mind. Key benefits include:A precise fit with no gaps or light bleedXL options with multiples blinds operating next to each otherStrong tensioning to prevent saggingImproved heat and glare controlCompatibility... --- - Published: 2026-01-14 - Modified: 2026-01-14 - URL: https://specialist-blinds.kijodev.com/inspiration-advice/news/are-top-down-bottom-up-blinds-worth-it/ Posted: 14 Jan 2026Top down bottom up blinds are blinds that sit in a “floating stack” in the middle of your window. You can then pull them down from the bottom or lift them from the top since the tension of the cord ensures they stay where left. They are very popular in different forms of side windows or doors, our most popular being our Duette® blinds for bifold doors. Maximum Shading with Top Down Bottom Up Blinds Your shading is much more customisable when you can operate your blinds in both directions. It allows you to precisely position the blinds to block out just the area where the sun is entering the room; while keeping the rest of the glass uncovered so you can enjoy the view. If you would like a more effective dimout effect, then we suggest combining your recess-fit blinds with free-hanging dimout blinds. That way you can choose to have your view entirely visible or almost entirely blacked out for a darker room. This dimout effect is most often used in bedrooms or cinema rooms. The Floating Rail System Floating rails are majorly effective when installing window coverings for bifold doors and blinds for standard rectangular windows. We can use a floating rail system with our pure™ range of pleated blinds, with both our own Solar Design™ single-layer fabric and the Duette® bifold door blinds fabric. This system combines the flexibility of the floating rail with the neat fit and design of our pure™ blinds.... --- - Published: 2026-01-13 - Modified: 2026-01-23 - URL: https://specialist-blinds.kijodev.com/inspiration-advice/advice/ask-the-expert/what-are-the-best-blinds-for-sloping-windows/ What Are Sloping Window Blinds? As a result, we are seeing a variety of different shaped windows in all parts of the home. But, any large window or glazing they can cause an annoying glare, decrease privacy in your home and temperature control problems in the room. So, many require blinds for their shaped windows. However, people who have a slightly more unusual shaped window can often have a difficult time looking for blinds that will fit neatly. This is because most blinds companies sell are only designed for standard square and rectangular windows. As such, they often have to find a more specialist solution... Shaped Window Blinds This is where the technology that we have developed for blinds for conservatories is useful. As, we have designed blinds to fit neatly into areas where normal blinds cannot. This was the case with this recent customer in London; who was looking for blinds for a wide gable-shaped window in their home. This window differed slightly from most gable-shapes; as it had a flat top rather than coming to a point in the middle. This meant that we couldn’t use our pureaspect™ Gable Blinds in the way we normally do, and would have to do something a bit different. For these blinds, we were able to fit an extra pure™ Pleated window blind neatly between two gable blinds to fill... --- - Published: 2026-01-12 - Modified: 2026-01-12 - URL: https://specialist-blinds.kijodev.com/inspiration-advice/advice/ask-the-expert/how-do-you-cover-odd-shaped-windows/ You’ve bought the house and love the views. But soon you realise the sunny glare is too much and you need blinds... Blinds, that is, for odd shaped sized windows. No problem, blinds for unusual shaped windows are our speciality... What are the best blinds for small & narrow windows? For many blinds companies, how to cover a small window is a challenge. We often find small awkwardly shaped windows in conservatories and garden rooms we are working on. Other blind companies tend to leave these uncovered, but we prefer to make blinds for small windows a feature of the room rather than an afterthought. Whether it’s blinds for narrow windows, blinds for short windows, or even blinds for tiny windows, fabric choice comes first. When choosing, think about performance and density as well as pattern and colour. Some blind fabrics for example are effective at reducing glare, heat and cold – without darkening. How to cover odd and unusual shaped windows? We’ve been developing solutions on how to cover irregular shaped windows for over 30 years. A roof lantern is a raised architectural structure, while a skylight is a flat glazed window. When comparing roof lantern vs skylight, the main difference is form and function. A roof lantern typically sits proud of the roofline and creates a central design feature. A skylight is flush with the roof and is usually more discreet. This distinction is key when considering light levels, heat control and whether blinds are needed. What are the key roof lantern vs skylight differences? Roof lanterns offer visual impact, while skylights prioritise simplicity. The most important roof lantern vs skylight differences include:Roof lanterns introduce light from multiple anglesSkylights provide direct overhead lightRoof lanterns are often used in open plan kitchens and extensionsSkylights are common in smaller rooms and loft conversionsThese structural differences affect how each performs throughout the day. Do roof lanterns need blinds? Yes, roof lanterns usually benefit from blinds for comfort and control. A common question is do roof lanterns need blinds once installed. Because roof lanterns allow light from several angles, they can increase glare and heat gain. Roof lantern blinds help regulate temperature, reduce glare and improve privacy without losing the architectural effect. Do skylights need blinds? Additionally, they look gorgeous on most ceilings, especially the extra-large ones often found in orangeries. However, the amount of window glazing in a lantern can make it difficult to control the temperature, glare and shading. Lantern roof blinds come in handy if you’re struggling with any of these, so we’ve put together a list of lantern roof extension ideas to make your space more comfortable and stylish. Read on to see our suggestions! Horizontal Blinds Ideas One of our most beloved lantern roof extension ideas is installing a blind horizontally along the base of the lantern. By fitting blinds along the base, you can cover your whole lantern roof with just one or two large blinds. Thanks to over 30 years in this industry, we have gained valuable knowledge that allows us to craft large blinds for windows; we also have a variety of options to recommend. If you’re looking for sleek and practical, roller lantern roof blinds are a popular solution. This is due to the fact they can cover a large area, typically without any visible wires across the middle. This ‘wire-free’ look is preferred by most customers, although some larger lanterns may require a support wire. The roller material is great for shading your space, reducing glare and controlling the temperature in a room. What to Look for When Choosing Blinds for Your Bathroom? Choose designs that don’t have a heavy stack when raised and controls (cordless or safe types) that are easy to operate. Also think about how your blind handles light, you might want adjustable or light-filtering for daytime and darker fabrics for privacy at night. Can I Have Automated Blinds in my Bathroom? Yes, automated blinds are a great option for larger bathrooms. Specialist Blinds offer battery operated systems, with controls that can be wall-mounted, remote, or even linked to smart home systems. Because the blinds are made to measure in the UK, the motors and components are carefully sealed and designed to cope with the extra moisture you get in a bathroom. It’s a common issue, and you might be asking yourself, do blinds cause condensation in my home? The answer is no, it’s important to know that blinds don’t cause condensation itself. The real cause is warm, moist air meeting cold glass surfaces, often made worse by poor ventilation or broken window seals. Often homeowners ask: how do I stop condensation in my conservatory in winter? This article will offer tips to make sure your space stays mould free. Why Condensation Happens in Conservatories When warm indoor air hits cold glazing, moisture in the air turns into water droplets. This can happen in any home, especially in rooms with large glass areas like conservatories. To reduce condensation, focus on improving airflow, ventilation, and humidity control. Rooms that extend into the garden, like a conservatory, can be tough to keep clean. They attract a lot more dirt than the rest of your home, as well as a lot of insects at certain times of the year. As a result, blinds that are fitted in a conservatory will need a bit more care than standard window blinds throughout the house. So, just how do you keep blinds clean? Luckily there are lots of ways to make the job easy. Regular maintenance ensures your blinds will look like new throughout the spring and summer, and for many years to come. How to Clean Window Blinds Depending on the type of blinds you have, it is often possible to clean the fabric directly. All our Solar Design™ fabrics are fully washable, meaning that you can rinse them off in the shower or soak them in warm soapy water. Our fabrics differ from most others used in conservatory blinds, which frequently cannot be cleaned to such a degree. Even the fabrics labelled as ‘Easy Care’ can often only be wiped with warm water; anything stronger may damage the fabric.  Duette® fabrics need a little more care to clean properly, but stains can be treated with a soft sponge or brush. Electric blinds for conservatories offer elegant, high-performance shading with one-touch control. Here’s why electric conservatory blinds are a smart choice. Is it worth getting electric conservatory blinds? Absolutely. Motorised blinds offer a lot of benefits over manual blinds - especially in a conservatory. With the large amount of glazing a room like a conservatory can have, that can lead to having a lot of individual blinds. Instead of having to operate each blind manually, a motorised system allows you to operate them all together or in groups as well. Our Pure™ Power system, crafted in our factory in Ashford, Kent, was designed for large glazed areas such as conservatories. The motors are up to five times faster than others and can be controlled via remote or app. They’re ideal for conservatory roofs and windows where manual operation would be awkward. How do conservatory blinds save energy? Conservatory roof blinds significantly reduce glare and help regulate temperature. Duette® Thermal blinds trap heat in winter and reflect it away in summer giving you year-round comfort and our Pinoleum blinds offer added insulation, especially when combined with solar linings. Do electric blinds look bulky? Not at all. Our slim Pure™ Power top rails are deliberately discreet, allowing multiple conservatory blinds to operate without obstructing the glass or aesthetics. Can I group and control many blinds? Yes. Our Pure Solo™ system can... --- - Published: 2025-07-25 - Modified: 2025-10-16 - URL: https://specialist-blinds.kijodev.com/inspiration-advice/advice/qa/can-you-get-blackout-blinds-for-a-conservatory/ Conservatories give light, warmth and space but sometimes too much light or heat can be a problem. One question we often hear is: Can you fit blackout blinds in a conservatory? Here’s what you need to know. Are blackout blinds good for a conservatory? Technically, it is possible to fit blackout blinds into a conservatory. Some suppliers will offer them for roofs or windows but at Specialist Blinds, we don’t recommend them, nor do we sell blackout fabrics for conservatory roofs. This is because the large glass surfaces collect heat, and a blackout material traps hot air between the glass and fabric. Over time, this heat build‑up can cause stress to the glass and potentially damage it. What are the best conservatory blinds? We recommend light-filtering or thermal fabrics such as Duette® or a single pleat fabric. These reduce glare and heat without creating damaging hot air pockets. Special tension systems ensure a smooth glide and safe operation on roof slopes and vertical windows. Can blackouts work in other rooms? Blackout blinds are excellent for bedrooms or media rooms where total darkness is needed. If you choose to fit them in a somewhere other than a conservatory, blackout and dim-out fabrics can reduce glare, noise and light intrusion. External tests show blackout fabrics can reduce glare by 95%, but that same value in a glass conservatory might do more harm than good. Why not fit Perfect Fit blackout blinds? We generally use 'Electric Blinds' while referring to mains‑powered systems, while 'Motorised Blinds' can be either mains or battery powered. Both use a motor and remote or smart control and all our bespoke blinds are hand‑crafted at our factory in Ashford, Kent Is it worth getting electric blinds? Absolutely. Our Pure™ Power electric systems are up to five times faster than many competitors and work perfectly across our different ranges of bespoke blinds; including rollers, Duette®, XL Lantern and Pinoleum. They offer speed, convenience and elegance especially helpful on hard‑to‑reach windows or large glazed areas. What are the disadvantages of motorised blinds? The main considerations are cost and sourcing power. Electric systems are more expensive than manual versions, and they need either a mains socket or occasional battery charging (depending on the blind and frequency of use, this is usually about once every 6 months). Otherwise, there aren’t many downsides, our expert fitting ensures smooth and easy operation. Do electric blinds need to be hard wired? Mains‑powered electric blinds plug into a standard 13 Amp socket or can be wired to a fused spur during installation. Battery‑powered motorised blinds are self‑contained and perfect where wiring isn’t practical. What home automation systems are electric blinds compatible with? You can control your blinds easily with services like Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, Siri and IFTTT. But without the right blinds, they can cause glare, heat build-up, and an obvious lack of privacy. Whether you’re prioritising comfort, insulation or style, the right lantern roof blinds make all the difference—and it’s certainly something we know a thing or two about. Can you get blinds for roof lanterns? Yes - there is a wide range of different blinds you can get for a roof lantern. This can be anything from a sleek single blind going across the bottom of the lantern to individual blinds in each pane of glass. It's all down to your own style and preference. Why Fit Blinds to a Lantern Roof? While lantern roofs are a popular architectural feature in modern extensions, often housing kitchens or extra office space, they’re also a primary source of heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer. Installing high-performance blinds for lantern roofs can help you: Control temperature year-round Reduce glare from the direct sunlight Enhance privacy without sacrificing personal style Complement your interior design scheme effortlessly Do roof lanterns make the room hot? As with any large area of glazing, a roof lantern can dramatically increase the tempurature of a room. This can be especially noticeable if the room is south-facing, as heat can build up over the entire day. They can transform a home, bringing in natural light and offering stunning views. However, if you’re in a property blessed with large glazing you’ll know that they also present a significant challenge when it comes to temperature regulation and energy efficiency. According to the Energy Saving Trust, up to 40% of a home's heat can be lost through windows, particularly with large or poor-quality glazing. So how do you keep your gorgeous aesthetic whilst bringing down those energy bills? Never fear, we’re here to break it down. What exactly is the energy challenge of large windows? Modern architecture increasingly favours expansive windows and glass facades. While visually impressive, large windows can create serious energy efficiency issues for a few reasons:In winter, heat escapes more readily through glass than through insulated wallsAccording to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, poorly insulated windows can increase heating bills by up to 25% - certainly not an amount to be sniffed atEven when we factor in modern double glazing, windows remain one of the main sources of heat loss in UK homes. This is where bespoke, custom made blinds can make a remarkable difference. How can custom-made blinds improve energy efficiency? Unlike off-the-shelf solutions, custom made blinds are designed to fit your windows perfectly, eliminating excessive gaps that allow air to circulate and ambient temperature to escape. So, how is that relevant to your energy efficiency? In several ways:... --- - Published: 2024-09-05 - Modified: 2025-10-03 - URL: https://specialist-blinds.kijodev.com/inspiration-advice/information/survey-and-installation/what-happens-at-a-survey-visit/ The survey visit is when a member of our installation team takes the final measurements for your blinds, and goes over any of the small technical details that you need to know about your blinds. This can be specifics about the location of wiring and power supplies, to finalising details about your fabrics and fitting. After the survey is complete your installer will be able to give you an estimated time for installing the blinds when they visits you at survey. They will also book your installation date at that time. Do I Need To Be Present At The Survey? As the survey is the final step before your blinds are manufactured, it's important that someone is there with the surveyor to go through any final details about your order. If you are unable to attend survey then we will make your blinds using our best endeavours but cannot accept any liability for anything that is not exactly as you imagined it. Without discussing your order in detail at survey, there is always a risk that your expectations may differ from what we have recommended. For your convenience, our surveyor will make a short video summary of the survey, which will be emailed to you a short time after the visit. This allows you to review all of the details discussed at survey, and share it with anyone who was not able to be present. How Does The Survey Work? The fitter will bring with them any ladders and equipment needed to install the blinds. If any scaffolding is needed for larger installations, this will have been agreed at either the quotation or survey stage. Once the blinds are installed the fitter will show you how to operate and maintain your blinds, including information on any remote control options you have picked. Do I Need To Be Present At The Installation? It is extremely important that someone is present at installation, as we will require payment based on the method of payment agreed when you played your order. If you have opted to pay the balance by consumer credit/finance then the specific person that applied for the finance must also be present at installation to sign the completion form (no other person can do this – not even a spouse). You will also be asked to check the blinds once they are fitted and sign a confirmation of installation form, so that we know you are happy with your blinds. How Long Does The Installation Take? Installations can vary depending on how many blinds you have to be fitted, and the complexity of the overall job. In most cases, we will only need a few hours to fit your blinds, however some of our larger jobs have required multi-day installations. Pleated blinds offer the best of both worlds, and right now they are a hot trend. We explain why... “Pleats are on trend these days, but for people who love modern classic design, pleated blinds never go out of style. ” What are the best blinds for small & narrow windows? The connection between fashion and interiors has always been strong. When a colour is successful in fashion, it usually arrives on a cushion or a napkin pretty soon after. This year, it is all about pleats. From a pencil pleat skirt, to Elle Decor announcing that pleats have become a big trend in homewares from sideboards to cushions, pleats are news. Enter the pleated blind. In the world of blinds, pleats have always been a classic, offering both great functionality and a very clear aesthetic. The go-to for modernists working with clean lines, graphic or abstract interiors, pleated blinds help build visual texture in a room. For architects and interior designers working on large window installations and for newer builds with a lot of glazing, pleated blinds have a confidence that lend authority to a room. “Pleats are a modern classic that are having their time in the sun again,” says Specialist Blinds social content specialist Hannah Manton, “My favourite right now is a beautiful living room dining room with massive windows on both sides and a suspended... --- - Published: 2024-08-27 - Modified: 2026-01-23 - URL: https://specialist-blinds.kijodev.com/inspiration-advice/trending/design-clinic/modern-country/ Whether it’s called shabby chic, french country style, or more recently cottage-core, there has always been an interiors trend focused around well loved family furniture, vintage finds, bleached out neutrals and overstuffed cushions. It’s the kind of cosy, relaxed living that encourages you to kick off your shoes and curl up with a cup of tea, or a glass of wine. You know the feeling, right? In our dreams this house is usually in the south of France, or perhaps Diane Keaton’s beach house in Something’s Gotta Give. Sadly, the reality for many of us is how to create the same mood in a slightly different climate. Pinoleum blinds, used traditionally for conservatories and orangeries are the perfect partner for creating a modern country mood anywhere in the house. Made of slivers of fine wood which are woven together and then bound with binding tape, pinoleum is loved for its semi-transparent look which reduce glare and heat while maintaining the view outside. Fans of pinoleum talk about adding texture and warmth to their interior and about the inviting dappled light that doesn’t cut off the outside. Organised by the European Solar Shading Organisation (ES-SO), this event coincides with the Spring Equinox. With days getting longer and warmer, Global Shading Day brings awareness to the positive benefits of shading products. They contribute to create sustainable, energy-efficient buildings that retain heat during the winter and reject it in the summer. The goal is also to encourage people to learn more about the benefits of using blinds, shutters and awnings to support comfort and wellbeing in the home and workplace. Solar Shading and Its Benefits Experts have widely identified solar shading to help create healthy, productive and comfortable indoor environments. By celebrating Global Shading Day, we aim to introduce people to solar shading products and their benefits. Shading products can be fitted to buildings in two ways – externally, such as awnings and pergolas, and internally with blinds or curtains, etc. Guidehouse is a leading global provider of consulting services to the public and commercial markets. A recent study they conducted has proven that automated solar shading can minimise energy use. What Types of Shading Can We Provide? However as our pure™ pleated blinds are specially designed for conservatories, they can be especially effective there. In the winter, conservatories lose heat quickly and are difficult to maintain a regular temperature for, however, blinds help you make the most of your heating – making them more energy efficient. Blinds for insulating a Conservatory Any form of conservatory blinds can make an incredible difference in your conservatory’s temperature. With the right blinds in your conservatory, you can conserve heat in the winter and block it out in the summer – so they are a year-round effective investment. So how does it work? The floor-to-ceiling glazing in a conservatory results in a loss of heat in the winter as it escapes through the glass, unlike regular walls. However, a solution for this is made-to-measure blinds that cover your entire window. We recommend conservatory roof blinds and blinds along the sides of your conservatory. If your main reason for installing blinds is to combat volatile temperatures, we do recommend our Duette® conservatory blinds. The cellular texture traps in a layer of air creating an extra barrier between your conservatory’s glazing and the temperature outside. However our single-pleated blinds are also very effective as thermal conservatory blinds. However, you most likely also suffer from glare on your devices, excess heat and even a lack of privacy. Blinds are the perfect solution to these issues and can give you more control over the temperature and shading of your room. Bi-fold doors are often in a large set across your wall and require several blinds to cover the glazing. Our Apex Window Blinds are specifically designed to fit any uniquely angled window. Large Blinds Across Bifold Doors If you have a large set of doors whether that’s bifold, sliding doors or regular French doors, we can help you with blinds. A luxury blind is a made-to-measure blind crafted and installed by a specialist. They offer a longer-term solution to shade and temperature control for your home. When it comes to searching for a shading solution there’s the ever-present urge to seek out the cheapest option possible, especially for something so seemingly simple as window coverings. People search online for DIY blinds and store-bought window coverings. However, the benefits of spending more on something bespoke and crafted to last should not be overlooked. What's the difference between cheap blinds and luxury blinds? Cheap blinds can serve as a temporary solution for standard rectangular windows however you do get what you pay for. So, standard blind suppliers may make their blinds with lower quality fabric to bring their prices down. Therefore, they might not last long in your home or look high-quality. On the other hand, our blinds are guaranteed for five years after your purchase and look new for many years afterwards. Therefore, if you have to keep replacing your cheap blinds it might not be the most cost-effective option after all. Additionally, there may be visible excess strings and cords coming off the fabric of cheaper blinds that look unappealing. Whereas the cords in our luxury blinds are hidden within the fabric, providing a more sleek appearance. When attempting a quick DIY fix, you might even consider Perfect Fit blinds. However, the bulky frame blocks out a lot of your glazing, view and natural light. There are many lantern roof blinds and flat roof skylight blinds options for you to check out. We’ve also got a handy guide for you below if you’re unsure which type of glazing you might have in your ceiling. Working out if you have a Flat Roof Skylight or Lantern Roof It’s quite simple to assess your glazing situation without bringing in a professional. The clue is in the name! If the glazing is one flat pane of glass, then it’s probably a flat roof skylight. Like the three skylights featured below, we tend to install blinds on larger glazing projects as we, as specialists, can craft extra large lantern roof blinds. However, if the window in your roof has many different panes and the middle of it has an increased depth, then that would be a lantern roof. As pictured below, here’s a lantern roof with blinds individually fitted to the panes of glass. You can see how the panes angle towards the deepest part of the lantern across the middle. Therefore, we can help you if you’re looking for cathedral window blinds at home since we offer unique shading solutions. In order to create blinds for cathedral-style windows, we use pureaspect™ technology that we initially developed for gable blinds. This is because cathedral-style windows often feature unusually shaped windows that have an arched or triangular apex to them. Best Fabrics for Cathedral Window Blinds Whether you’re looking for blinds for shade, insulation or privacy, we have an array of fabrics for you to choose from. The pureaspect™ gable blind technology is designed to cover the unique shape at the top of a blind and then drop down to cover the rest of the more standard rectangular shape. Below are some of our recommended fabrics for rounded or arched window blinds. Our pure™ pleated blinds work well for unique shapes, as they were specifically designed for use in conservatory roofs. Thanks to our bespoke manufacturing techniques, we can make our blinds very large or very narrow. Ensuring we cover as much of the window as possible. The more of your glazing that is covered, the less heat from your room – keeping your heating bills low. For more modern-looking cathedral window blinds, we recommend our Duette® thermal blinds. Last year we made the decision to rebrand from Conservatory Blinds Limited to The Specialist Blinds Co. Ltd, to reflect the full range of products we provide. Now, we have made another bold step by moving the ownership of the company into an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), which places the ownership of the company directly in the hands of its employees. We have been a family-owned company for over 25 years, and now that family is expanding to include all of our employees. Many members of staff have worked with us for over 10 years, with some having been a part of the company for almost 20 years. So in many ways there is already a strong sense of family across the company. What is an EOT? An EOT effectively means that our employees now own the company, under a trust headed by several key members of staff including our Operations Director and Head of Marketing. This means that our employees now have a direct stake in the company. It also helps secure the company for the future, with the ownership now in the hands of the people who work there. EOTs are becoming increasingly common. Conservatory blinds are an effective solution for insulating conservatory roofs. With conservatory blinds, the fabric acts as a barrier between the cold glazing and the inside temperature of your room. This barrier, therefore, stops heat from escaping through the glazing. Not only do blinds offer conservatory roof insulation, they can also help to reduce your energy costs and shade your home. The Benefits of Conservatory Roof Blinds include: Our conservatory roof blinds retract neatly in subtle stacks to seamlessly fit your conservatory with minimal gaps for heat to escape. We designed our blinds to let in natural light so the room can still be naturally lit even when the blinds are extended, whilst also offering a thermal property. Our conservatory roof blinds offer the benefit of looking aesthetically pleasing whilst potentially saving on energy costs. You can customise the look of your conservatory with our extensive fabric range and bespoke RAL powder coated colour finish. These can match your frames or complement your décor. Generally, most people prefer to sleep in complete darkness, so we suggest installing dimout blinds for your bedroom. However, if you would like to customise your shade then installing blackout vertical blinds or Duette® blinds might be your best option. Why choose Blackout Vertical Blinds? The panes in vertical blinds allow you to switch between three options of shading. If you fully extend your blackout vertical blinds you can almost have total darkness. When you turn the louvres you can see out but with slight shading. Or you can retract all your blinds and have a full view of the outside and sunlight. Can I get Blackout Vertical Blinds for a Gable Window? We don’t only install vertical blinds for standard shape glazing, we also install them on gable windows sometimes. With unique homes with vaulted ceilings and feature windows, we are having to create more gable end blackout blinds. This is due to gable windows becoming ever-increasingly popular in the modern day home. In the past, gable end windows have really only featured in conservatory roofs. Now, more people are installing gable windows in other parts of the home. Areas such as bedrooms, above folding or sliding doors, and the front of the home have become increasingly popular. Because of this, the demand for blinds for gable windows has increased vastly over the last few years. There are several reasons gable windows are becoming so popular. These include:They make a brilliant addition to an extension or room by creating a bespoke feel to the house. They allow large amounts of natural light to stream through the house, creating a bright and inviting atmosphere. However, these advantages also come with unique challenges relating to privacy and protection from the sun that not every company has a solution for. However, it’s around this time of year we start to get people looking for blinds for folding doors. Many want to increase privacy and better temperature control in their room. The neatest way to fit blinds for folding doors is to have a blind fitted to each individual panel of the doors. There are several ways to fit blinds, that doesn’t interfere with the operation of the doors. pure™ Blinds for Folding Doors The main way we recommend to fit blinds into bi-fold doors is using our pure™ Conservatory Blinds. We developed our unique pure™ rail system as a way to neatly fit recessed blinds into conservatories. However, it also allows us to fit blinds for folding doors. We can use this system with both single pleat and Duette® Thermal folding door fabrics, which are available in a wide range of colours to suit your room’s existing décor. This style of blind also comes with the added benefit of being available with our custom coloured rails and components. This means, the blinds can look like a natural part of the folding doors. Tru Fit System Tru Fit is a drill-free method of fitting blinds. This method is small and neat enough to be fitted into a set of folding doors. Like the pure™ Blinds, it can be used with both single-pleat and Duette® fabrics, and also operates with a floating rail for maximum control over your shading. The great advantage of this type of window is they help to make a home feel spacious and open; allowing for customers to have a full-length view of the beautiful outside. This is especially effective when living in rural areas with vast amounts of greenery and nature; bringing the outside in. However, sometimes this can cause problems with privacy and unwanted light in some parts of the day. For this reason, many customers ask ‘can I have floor to ceiling blinds on my window? ’A customer in Essex with this exact question recently contacted us, as they were trying to find a neat solution to cover their 7 meter floor to ceiling window. The window consisted of a large gable, many rectangular shaped glazing and six folding doors. The beautiful feature window added a WOW factor to their lounge area. Floor to Ceiling Gable Blinds To cover the large top area of the window, we used our innovative pureaspect™ system for triangular window blinds. After extensive research, our factory in Ashford, Kent can manufacture blinds which not only cover the triangular windows but also the regular shaped windows below. These roofs tend to be called hybrid conservatory roofs. They mix the light and airy atmosphere that comes with a traditional conservatory with increased privacy and insulation from the solid roof. However, as the roof does still have some elements of glazing, there are still problems with temperature control and glare. Because of this, we fit blinds into several semi-solid roofs to help the room be more comfortable throughout the year. This was the case with this recent installation in Northamptonshire. Transforming an extension with a semi-solid roof can be tricky. Yet, we fitted blinds into both the glazed areas of the roof, side windows and doors to transform the extension. Fitted Roof Blinds The customers opted for a mixture of blinds for this room. For the roof blinds, they went with our pure™ Pleated Blinds, specifically developed by us for conservatories. Luckily we have the perfect solution for this problem, one we’ve designed and made ourselves. Triangle Shaped Window Blinds We originally designed our pureaspect™ Gable Blinds to fit neatly into the triangular end of a gable-end conservatory. Previously, the best way to cover a triangular shape would be to use a lot of smaller blinds; including fixed blinds that couldn’t move. However, with our pureaspect™ we could cover an area with just a small amount of blinds. The blinds are fully retractable when not in use. We kept improving and expanding what these blinds could do. As a result, many with lantern roofs are now looking for ways to reduce the amount of sunlight and heat during the summer months. At Specialist Blinds Limited we have a range of blinds that tackle this problem head-on, now including our unique lantern roof roller blinds. Lantern Roof Roller Blind A horizontal roller is just one of the many ways to cover a lantern roof. Because of the standard rectangular shape of a roof lantern we are able fit a frame around the edge of the roof. This is essential in making sure that the roller blind does not sag. One of the key advantages of the lantern roof roller blind is they do not require wires across the roof. This means that there is no... --- - Published: 2024-07-28 - Modified: 2025-09-16 - URL: https://specialist-blinds.kijodev.com/inspiration-advice/news/expanding-our-factory/ Posted: 15 Feb 2019Over the past few months we’ve been making some big changes down at our factory in Ashford, Kent. We have been constructing a new mezzanine floor to go over the main factory area, effectively increasing the square footage. This means we can create new production areas focused on some of the most popular blinds we are now selling. Why make these changes? As the market has changed over the years we have seen an increased need in very large or wide blinds. Lantern roof blinds, for example, need blinds that can be several meters long to cover the area properly. As such, this top mezzanine floor will contain an area specifically designed to accommodate these very large blinds. This extra space will allow us to ensure an even higher level of quality. As, we can now create blinds up to 5m long and have the space to be able to rotate them 360º during production. This means that not only do we have a better area for creating large blinds for lantern roofs, but we can even make new, wider bespoke roller blinds or Vision blinds. It also gives us the Ashford factory the space to create even larger gable blinds, so we can create neat fitting blinds for the wide variety of gables and triangular shaped windows that in the market at the moment. Creating extra space Expanding our Ashford factory will also give Conservatory Blinds Limited more space for our research and development team. They are now expected to increase, with many people predicting that today could be the hottest day of the year so far. With warmer weather comes increased temperatures in any room with large glazing. This also means that our installation team is at it’s busiest period; performing surveys and installations for various blinds across the country. While this weather is making rooms uncomfortably hot, what a lot of people don’t realise is that the temperature is usually a lot hotter next to the glass. In a conservatory especially, the roof can get up to temperatures of 60ºC (140ºF)! As so much of our work involves working at height next to the hot glass, we have to account for these extremely high temperatures. Dehydration and overheating is a big problem when working in these environments even during normal temperatures. However our experienced fitters have several ways of keeping themselves cool while working. Safely Working In High Temperatures In the past we would ask our customers to provide cold drinks to our installers, however the COVID-9 pandemic means that is no longer feasible. Instead we ask our customers to be patient with our installation team, as the hot weather can affect how long it takes to fit blinds. Please be understanding if your installer needs to take a short break to drink some water and cool down. The customer was unable to find anyone who could help her. She was looking for some triangle window blinds for a gable window in their house, and according to the customer any other company she had contacted had said they could not help her with blinds for that space. The window was located in the bedroom. Therefore, the customer needed blinds that were both able to:Keep out a lot of lightIncrease PrivacyEasily retract away neatly so they can enjoy the view The Challenge When the sales person, Craig, came to visit he could easily see why the area was causing other companies such difficulty. The gable itself was full of some very tricky angles and shapes. However, it had the added problem of the square windows in the middle. The frames and handles of each window stood out further than the other areas of glazing. This meant that it wouldn’t be possible to use a large blind to cover the entire area. Instead it had to be individual blinds on each panel. Our Solution For Triangle Shaped Blinds Luckily, we had just the solution. Over the years, we have been able to use our knowledge and expertise to develop blinds for almost any shaped window. This includes awkward shaped conservatory roofs or even odd-shaped house windows. We were recently contacted by a customer in Devon; they required blinds for a variety of windows and doors in their bungalow extension. This included both standard and awkward shaped glazing. Bespoke Windows Blinds Manufactured In Our Factory Several of the windows had dual coloured framing, meaning the outside window frames were black and the insides were white. When our installer surveyed this particular job, he realised a white coloured mounting blind rail across the window would have shown white stripes across the glass when looking from the outside. In order to ensure that the window blinds looked just as good from the outside as they did from within, we were able to powder-coat the mounting profile to be two different colours: We are only able to offer this level of customisation because we have our own powder coating facilities at our UK factory in the Ashford, Kent. This is especially bad with conservatories as they comprise mostly of glazing that will let heat escape. Now the clocks have gone back, we are experiencing shorter days and colder temperatures which can have an effect on your glass extension. It is more important than ever to focus on conservatory insulation to create an inviting but cosy atmosphere in your home, as this is where many will be spending most of their time over the next month. Conservatory Insulation with Modern Duette® Thermal Blinds The main fabrics we would recommend to improve insulation are the Duette® Thermal Blinds, which have been designed to tackle temperature control head on. With more people deciding to use their glass extension as a dining room or kitchen area; Duette® thermal blinds are the perfect option; helping to keep the room cooler in the summer months and warmer in the winter months. The fabric’s unique honeycomb structure creates an insulating layer of air, which helps stop heat from leaving a room. The Duette® thermal blinds not only effectively control temperatures in the room, but they also prevent the low winter sun from creating an unwanted glare. This is especially important if the glass extension is used as a living area with a television. With all that going on, it’s understandable that no one is thinking about keeping the heat out of their homes. Because of changeable weather like ours, it’s easy to forget just how warm it can get during the summer. Especially, when we’re in the middle of a week-long storm. However, don’t forget that last year’s summer was declared to be the joint hottest on record, with the MET office issuing heat warnings and recommending that people stay inside. Why is it important to think about this now? Many people leave thinking about blinds until the summer. This is when they’re reminded just how hot a conservatory or extension can get during a heatwave. While this does create a very striking look – especially if there is a nice view to admire – it also causes a lot of problems with heat control and privacy. We had a recent customer with a home with those exact problems. Earlier this month we were able to fit our blinds across several different areas of their home; including our unique range of bespoke Duette® gable blinds. This was an extremely complex installation that required over 50 individual blinds, with multiple different types of operation. We completed the install over a series of several days earlier this month; ensuring that the blinds were ready for Christmas. Bespoke Gable Blinds One of the main features of this home were three large gable windows in the main living and kitchen area, each with a set of folding doors beneath them. These each required a large gable blind, which would extend down to cover both the gable and doors. To help improve both privacy and temperature control, we recommended the thermal Duette® fabrics. With their honeycomb structure, they act as an excellent insulating layer to help keep the house warm. Our pureaspect™ Gable blinds have a neat fit that is unique to them. They can fully retract away with a minimal stack, so they don’t get in the way when they’re not needed. Read our Q&A with our Contracts Manager Sean for all the answers:Q: What are Perfect Fit Blinds? A: Perfect Fit blinds are single-pleat, cellular or Venetian blinds mounted within a frame. They do not require drilling or screwing. The actual ‘Perfect Fit’ system refers to the frame itself, rather than the specific type of blind used within it. In other words, it's the frame that makes it a “Perfect Fit” and not the blinds. Gable Blinds Q: How do Perfect Fit blinds work? A: Simply put, Perfect Fit window blinds do not require drilling into the frame in order to be fitted into a window. They are literally pushed into the existing frame between the glass and the neoprene gasket. That’s it! Q: Can I have Perfect Fit blinds? A: There are a lot of issues to consider when buying Perfect Fit blinds. Customers ask us everything from: “Do perfect fit blinds fit all upvc windows? ” (they work well for rectangular windows made of UPVC) to: “Can you fit perfect fit blinds to wooden windows? ”In fact, that’s a bigger question. We are sometimes able to fit them, but they would not be our first recommendation for complicated windows or windows made from timber or aluminium. Another well-known nationwide blind company had recently fitted roller blinds. However, something extra important caught the fitter’s attention. The company had fitted the blinds in a very unsafe way: As they are manual roller blinds, they require the use of a looped cord. However, the cord on the roller blinds were much too long. The blinds only had a simple hook to tie the cord off with. Had the company fitted them safely, not only would the cord itself have been much shorter. But, they would fit the blinds with a full cleat, and other child safety devices such as breakaway connectors. Because of the blind being fitted with a looped cord it could easily fall off the hook and pose a danger to children. Child Safety Regulation To prevent blind companies from still fitting unsafe blinds, the child safety regulations came into effect back in February 2014. It includes specifications on how long a looped cord should be, to pass as “child safe” and legal. They also included the different safety devices required to ensure they don’t pose a risk to children. It’s shocking to us that a large nationwide company would still fit blinds like this. Especially, when it’s over 5 years after the regulations came into effect. There are many reasons it may have happened but it’s possible it just could have been ignorance on... --- - Published: 2024-07-28 - Modified: 2025-09-12 - URL: https://specialist-blinds.kijodev.com/inspiration-advice/news/duette-blinds-with-pure-technology/ Duette® blinds are a popular choice for homeowners looking for stylish, effective window coverings. However, controlling temperature in a conservatory, especially through the roof, can be a challenge. Many people ask, how can I insulate my conservatory roof? The good news is that conservatory roof blinds offer an excellent solution to improve insulation, reduce heat loss in winter, and lower energy bills. Why Is Conservatory Roof Insulation Important? Because conservatories are primarily made of glazing, they can suffer from significant heat loss during colder months and overheating in summer. Most of the heat escapes through the conservatory roof, making insulation there especially important. Heating a conservatory without insulation or blinds means you’ll likely run the heating constantly, driving up your bills without much comfort. What Is the Best Way to Insulate a Conservatory Roof? The best conservatory roof insulation solution is using thermal conservatory roof blinds, particularly Duette® Thermal Blinds. These blinds have a unique honeycomb structure that traps air to create an insulating layer, helping to keep heat inside during winter and reflect sunlight in summer. Our pure™ Pleated Blinds and pure™ Pinoleum Blinds are also popular for conservatories, offering bespoke fits even for challenging triangular roof shapes. The Pinoleum blinds come with an optional solar lining to enhance heat retention while maintaining a classic look. How Do Conservatory Blinds Improve Insulation? Conservatory blinds act as a barrier between your room’s warm air and the cold glazing. This insulating conservatory roof blinds layer significantly reduces heat loss. This means privacy can become a larger issue in any room with areas of glazing. Just having the lights on at night can create a “goldfish bowl” feeling – where it’s hard to see out, but everyone else can see in! Many people just stop using those rooms when it gets dark, but there are other options. An effective solution is using blinds to increase privacy in a room during the night, while still having the option to open everything up during the day. Glass Roofs Any area with a glazed roof, such as a conservatory, orangery, or an extension with a lantern roof, can have privacy problems from people looking in from above. Depending on exactly where the room is location, neighbours on a higher floor may have a full view through the roof. We have designed our ranges of conservatory roof blinds to have the neatest fit, even in awkward shaped glazing, this ensures gaps are as small as possible. Not only will this stop anyone from seeing through the room, but it will also add extra insulation to the room as the nights get colder. Our horizontal blinds are an excellent option for roof lanterns, instantly adding complete privacy with just a small amount of blinds. However, with doors can come problems with glare, temperature control, and privacy. At Conservatory Blinds Limited we have a variety of different blinds for doors. But, we are often asked what are the best blinds for doors? The short answer to this question is it depends on the type of doors you have, and the end product you are looking for. Blinds for Sliding Doors Sliding doors are a great addition to any conservatory. However, due to how they operate, we take great care to assure the blinds don’t interfere. Similarly, the blinds should be a complimentary asset to the room, fitting in with any other blinds in the conservatory. In some cases, we can recess-fit a pure™ Pleated or Duette® Blind into both parts of the glass of the door without interfering with its operation. However, this is not guaranteed in all cases as some may not have space to fit blinds into the frames. So, the alternate solution we use is to fit a free-hanging blind which the door can easily slide behind. As you can see from the photos below, this method still allows us to create a neat look for the blinds while still making them easy to use. For the free-hanging blinds, we will use a child-safe operation method, such as the cord-free LiteRise® system. We were fully informed re the progress of the blinds’ manufacture and installation. The fitter, Ryan, was friendly, efficient, always arriving on time. The fitting was completed quickly with the minimum of fuss, and Ryan made sure we knew how to operate the blinds. It was a real pleasure dealing with both Greg and Ryan and the after sales support has also been excellent. We will be using Specialist Blinds in the future. ”This shows why our specialist blinds reviews often highlight professionalism, expert advice, and precise fitting that not only reduces heat and glare but still lets in natural light. Do Conservatory Blinds Have Any Photo Reviews? Visual proof backs up our quality. Recently, our team were praised after installation on a job in Southampton. They kindly left photos in their review which you can see below, and commented: "This company was chosen out of three blind companies. A popular choice for conservatory windows is the DIY solution called ‘Easi-Fit®’ or ‘Perfect Fit Blinds’. Many online retailers sell this type of blind system, as a simple solution the customer themselves can fit with no need for drilling or screwing into the window. Although these blinds are great for those on a budget, they are not always the best product for conservatories. Only suitable for side windows Although DIY blinds are a cheap and easy solution for conservatories, online retailers have designed them to be suitable for only rectangular shaped windows. Most conservatory roofs feature awkward shaped areas of glazing and can be very problematic to cover with DIY blinds. For this reason, we recommend an expert installer to fit bespoke blinds – made specifically for roof glazing. At Conservatory Blinds Ltd we offer our unique curved pure™ rail, which allows us to cover almost any shaped glazing with a neat finish. Visible Wires & Clips Unfortunately, a downfall of ordering DIY is there will be visible clips and wires running down each side of the window. While others use a large bulky frame, which will cover a large amount of glazing. We have constructed a system which uses concealed clips and discrete coloured wires which are almost invisible. This helps to improve the overall look of the blinds, perfect for stunning conservatories and folding doors. Long Lasting... --- - Published: 2024-07-28 - Modified: 2025-03-10 - URL: https://specialist-blinds.kijodev.com/inspiration-advice/news/using-our-specialist-blinds-for-large-windows/ Posted: 1 Oct 2018Large windows are becoming a popular addition to homes, but they often have a lot of the same problems with heat and glare that conservatories and orangeries do. It also means that we’re able to use our experience with conservatory blinds to solve these problems. A customer from Richmond, needed a blinds solution for covering both large windows and doors in their home. The blinds need to be large, to tailor the size and shape of windows. They’d also need to neatly fit into a triangular shape at the top of each window. Specialist Blinds For Large Windows Because of the shapes involved, we recommend our unique pureaspect™ Gable Blind system, using Duette® gable fabric. We designed the pureaspect™ system so blinds can fit neatly into triangular shapes. We normally see this glazing in gable-end conservatories. But, we are increasingly seeing these types of shapes in new rooms and extensions that are being built. One advantage of our gable blinds is they can cover the triangular shape while extending down to cover areas underneath. This was the perfect solution here, as it allowed the same blind covered both the windows and doors. Other triangular shaped blinds on the market will be able to cover this type of window. However, unlike our unique system other companies are more likely to cover the window with a large amounts of blinds, failing to offer a neat solution for your room. https://www. youtube. com/watch? v=52UeJXOEvzE Using Our Easy Operation For ease... --- - Published: 2024-07-28 - Modified: 2025-04-23 - URL: https://specialist-blinds.kijodev.com/inspiration-advice/news/help-our-fitters-keep-cool-during-the-heatwave/ Posted: 24 Jul 2019As you may have noticed, the UK is in the middle of a heatwave, seeing temperatures soar and potentially even break records. During hot weather the demand for blinds skyrocket. Everyone is trying to keep cool in their conservatory, orangery or extension to stay comfortable. While the temperatures can start get be unbearable for most of us normally, it is even worse for our installation team. The hottest part of the conservatory is the roof, and the closer you get to it the warmer it gets. In some cases the roof of a conservatory can approach 60ºC (140ºF)! This makes it extremely uncomfortable when trying to work up there either measuring for or installing conservatory blinds. How we can keep cool During periods of hot weather we ask that our customers do as much as possible to help our fitters keep cool. A couple of things which help greatly are keeping a power socket free, many of our fitters bring their own fans with them. And also, cold drinks are always appreciated. Please also be understanding if your fitter needs to take a short break when measuring or installing roof blinds. Our fitters try to alleviate the hot conditions by:Start work early – if we can start early in the morning, we can avoid the worst of the day’s sunVentilate the conservatory – creating a through-draft significantly reduces the temperatureCreate our own shade – we fit the largest roof blinds first so that we can work in... --- - Published: 2024-07-28 - Modified: 2025-01-09 - URL: https://specialist-blinds.kijodev.com/inspiration-advice/news/what-are-the-different-options-for-bifold-door-blinds/ Posted: 26 Feb 2021Bifold doors are a brilliant way to add style and elegance to your home. For this reason, they are becoming very popular for those building rear extensions. Previously, many would opt for patio doors and regular windows for the back of their house. However, bifold door blinds are now the new trend! There are many different options to cover bi-fold doors, and finding the correct solution for your home can be tricky. We have outlined some blinds we would recommend and others we would not. Blinds we recommend for Bifold Doors... Recess Fitted Bifold Door Blinds Recess fitted bifold blinds fit neatly against the glass, sitting next to the beading of the bifold door frame (with the optional drill-free alternative). A primary advantage of this type of blind is when not in use they retract away so neatly, you can barely even tell they are there. This is perfect for when you want to open up the space and let the natural light flood in. However, when extended they not only offer a sleek solution but are also great at controlling temperatures, reducing glare, and providing privacy. Unlike other DIY solutions on the market, we install our recess fitted blinds with a thin pure™ rail so the blinds do not affect the operation of the doors. Free Hanging Bifold Door Blinds Another great option is our free-hanging, folding door blinds. This option is available in a variety of different blinds types; with the most popular option being... --- --- ## Blinds - Published: 2026-01-12 - Modified: 2026-01-13 - URL: https://specialist-blinds.kijodev.com/blinds/lantern-roof-blinds/roller-lantern-roof-blinds/ BESPOKE SOLUTIONS Roller Lantern Blinds SPECIALIST BLINDS Roller Blinds for Lantern Roofs With electric blinds in a lantern roof you have a range of options.
